Casio Exilim digital camera has embedded

The Exilim EX-Z300 and EX-Z250 camera have the updated Exilim 3.0 software that includes functionalities like night-time image stabilization or “make-up”, which is basic photo retouching (makes everyone look “beautiful” (blurred?). It recognizes faces and applies a smoothing (blur) and color-correction to make the image look better. It might work, or people might look like Milla Jovovich in Ultra-Violet, I don’t know.

It’s worth taking a look and it shows where consumer cameras are headed: let’s face it, with a limited lens size, the image quality won’t get much better, but devices can get smarter. More info on Tech-On

There is no word on pricing as at press time, but this won’t be posing a threat to the iPod dynasty anytime soon.

Portable PC Theatre Concept

Portable PC Theatre Concept

Instead of toting around a projector as well as a notebook, why not merge both devices into one machine? Enter the portable PC theatre concept that sees a full-fledged multimedia PC and a 5.1 surround sound system that allows you to enjoy your favorite movies anytime, anywhere - just make sure you’re near a power outlet since a projector will probably drain a standard notebook battery dead within a short period of time. It would also be an engineering challenge to make sure the heat from the projector will be dissipated correctly without adversely affecting the rest of the computer’s components. No idea on whether this concept is viable or not, but it would definitely be mighty impressive it if is ever realized.

GM Performance Display

GM Performance Display

General Motors (GM) has come up with its own performance display that is meant to be used in tandem with ECOtec engines, especially turbocharged ones. They will be available as an option from early next year onwards, retailing for $295 a pop in a dealer installed package. Dubbed the Reconfigurable Performance Display, you will be able to view a vast array of data in gauge form, including boost, battery voltage, air fuel ratio, cam phase angle, timing, barometric pressure and torque and horsepower. It will be accompanied by a G-sensor with the ability to enable/disable traction control via the screen itself. No word on pricing is currently available, but this is just too cool. I wonder whether rice rocket owners will install one of these puppies.

Sixense 3D Input Device

Sixense 3D Input Device

Sixense has spent the last 18 months working on a new 3D input device that could potentially revolutionize the way we use the computer, and will definitely draw comparisons with the Wiimote where gaming is concerned. It relies on realistic movements to control how you interact within the game, but is way more advanced than Nintendo’s offering since it is based on precise tracking relative to a base station and will be able to react to movement in six degrees of freedom. The degree of accuracy falls to the nearest millimetre or degree, and is updated once every ten milliseconds. Being highly sensitive, I don’t think I will enjoy using this input device since my hands tend to shake by itself a whole lot, so anyone watching me play an FPS will probably suffer from a really bad headache later on. No word on when this input device will be released to the masses though.

Pedal-powered Monorail Concept

Pedal-powered Monorail Concept

With fuel costs going nowhere but up for a long time already, it makes perfect sense as people scramble for greener solutions. Unfortunately, public transport systems aren’t exactly very green yet at this point in time, but a pedal-powered monorail concept could soon change things. Imagine propelling yourself forward on a monorail track using nothing but pedal power - there are, of course, many questions that are raised. What happens if the carriage in front of me pedals much slower? What if I have freeloaders in my carriage that are too lazy to pedal in a united manner, instead preferring to take a break that lasts the entire journey?

S-Ready SR-PM13 External Hard Drive

S-Ready SR-PM13 External Hard Drive

S-Ready has recently unveiled the SR-PM13 external hard drive that comes in a weird external case that is S-shaped. The main reason that is possible is due to the Samsung 1.3″ hard drive within, but the small form factor of the hard drive itself would mean a rather limited storage capacity as well. Still, this is meant for those who want to tote only their really important data around without sacrificing on portability (and yet having more space than a USB flash drive). The SR-PM13 will come with an integrated USB cable and measures a mere 11mm thin. Choose from gold, black, silver and pink colors. Each SR-PM13 will retail for approximately $200 after conversion.

Trekstor Vibez Gets 32GB Bump

Trekstor Vibez Gets 32GB Bump

Trekstor’s Vibez isn’t exactly new, but it will touch the 32GB mark to place it on par with the iPod touch where storage space is concerned. In addition to that memory boost, everything else about the Vibez will remain the same as before. I would’ve preferred to see something else upgraded other than the capacity, especially when the Vibez has been around for quite some time already.

USB Jewel Thumb Drive Series

USB Jewel Thumb Drive Series

Want to bling up your range of USB accessories? Instead of picking up a Swarovski crystal kit, why not get pre-made versions with the USB Jewel Thumb Drive Series from Brando? Available in Tear Drop, Ribbon, Classical, Skeleton, Fortune and Diamond varieties, each of these will retail for $39. Strangely enough, the product pages do not mention the storage capacity, so I’m guessing 2GB to 4GB thereabouts.
