Top 10 iPhone “killers”

Top 10 iPhone KillersiPhone is a very interesting device. It was a big sensation on the cell phone market when it appeared. Apart from being the long-awaited phone from Apple, it also introduced many features that were anticipated by community. People wanted multimedia phone with huge and bright screen, and, of course, as it is from Apple, it must have Apple’s iTunes integrated perfectly. All these features were implemented correctly, and in result customers obtained one of the best smartphones on the market. However, other companies did not want to miss this opportunity, and hurried to make their own iPhone rivals. It is hard to compete with such a strong opponent, but some of the models apperaed to be quite interesting. In this top we wanted to choose top 10 iPhone killers, or so-called ones.

iPhone 3G Line Forms in NYC

iPhone 3G Line Forms in NYC

A ten person line has been spotted outside Apple’s Fifth Avenue retail store as of this Friday afternoon. As ample supply is expected, it seems unnecessary to be waiting a full week outside the store. However, the lineup is acknowledged by both security and Apple employees, some who have left the store temporarily to talk to those in line. Chairs and other apparel make it clear that they are ready for the seven-day wait. No celebrities have been spotted this time (last year Greg Packer was there). The reason for the early waiting (camping?) could be that customers are required to activate their iPhones in-store this time around, as opposed to walking out quicky with their purchases, it is estimated that the time spent processing each customer will take at least 10 minutes versus a fraction of that time previously. Still, it’s crazy :)

Sharp Low-Power LCD TV Could Work With One Solar Panel

Sharp Low-Power LCD TV Could Work With One Solar Panel

Sharp will be exhibiting its latest range of environmentally friendly products during the Hokkaido Toyako Summit on July 7-9 this year. One of the more interesting items is a prototype of a 26V-inch Low Power Consumption LCD TV. In terms of energy efficiency, this prototype uses about a quarter of a 28-inch CRT TV, whilst having almost the same display area. Even if it were to be compared to today’s LCD TV’s, it would still be energy friendly, as it would be using about one third of their consumption.

The benefits of having such a low-power LCD TV is that it can be run from a solar module, whose surface area would roughly be the same as the viewing area of the screen, allowing it to be used in places with utility-supplied electricity is scarce. They probably mean “camping in the wild” rather than “developing countries” I think…
