Ubisoft to take mobile gaming seriously?

If domain name registrations are to be an indication of a company’s future direction, it looks like Ubisoft is about to look at mobile gaming seriously. The company recently registered two domain names related to mobile – Ubisoftmobile.com and Ubisoft-mobile.com. At the moment both URLs lead to parked websites and nothing related to Ubisoft, so we can’t say for sure. But if Ubisoft didn’t purchase the domain names just to prevent any future cyber-squatting, it looks like the game publisher/developer could be focusing its efforts on creating mobile games in the future. Maybe through a new division called Ubisoft Mobile in the future? What do you think?

Mystery Google device needs permission from the FCC

It looks like Google has got a new device up its sleeves. The company recently filed an application to the FCC asking for permission to test a WiFi and Bluetooth-enabled “entertainment device” in employment homes in four US cities. While there aren’t any images of the device provided, it is vaguely described in the FCC application as some sort of device for connecting to home WiFi networks and other home electronics equipment. Something related to Google TV or Android@Home? Possibly. Hopefully we’ll find out more about it soon. Verizon Samsung Galaxy Nexus Android 4.0.4 update unofficially released

Good news for folks with the Samsung Galaxy Nexus – a new update for the phone has somehow managed to find its way online and is now available for the public to download. It brings the phone up to version Android 4.0.4 and includes a whole bunch of fixes and improvements. According to the unofficial changelog, the update makes the phone noticeably faster, fixes the battery stats bug, improved radios for better 3G/4G switching, improved signal strength, new Power Menu, faster boot up time, auto-brightness functionality changed, multi-touch issue resolved, increased volume, keyboard fixes and a lot more. Looks like an update that everyone ought to get on their Galaxy Nexus ASAP. Head over to the XDA-Developers forum for download links and more details.

LG-P700 and LG-P880 surface before MWC 2012

The Mobile World Congress is in a few weeks time, and it looks like the upcoming devices from phone manufacturers are making the usual early appearances. Latest to join the party is a pair of devices from LG – the LG-P700 and LG-P880. Not much is known about the devices, but here is what we know so far: the LG-P700 will run Ice Cream Sandwich and will have a 640 x 480 display, which is a pretty unique choice for an Android phone – assuming the reported numbers are correct. Other than that, nothing has been revealed.

The LG-P880 is said to be a high-end device, featuring a 720p HD display. It is a likely candidate for the rumored quad-core LG X3 which was leaked previously – a Tegra 3-packing, 4.7″ display, 8-megapixel rear camera and 16GB storage Android phone. As usual, we can’t say for sure until the devices have been officially revealed, so stay tuned for more details during MWC 2012 at the end of the month.

Samsung Galaxy Note available for pre-order this Sunday

The Samsung Galaxy Note was announced to arrive on AT&T on February 19th, and if you want to make sure that you have one to call your own on launch day – you can start pre-ordering the device this weekend. Consumers will have the choice of pre-ordering the phone tomorrow from AT&T and Best Buy. Those who pre-order it from AT&T will get the phone two days earlier than everyone else on February 17^th, while those who decide to go with Best Buy will receive a free Protective Flip Cover Case (worth $30).

The Galaxy Note features a 5.3″ HD Super AMOLED display, a 1.4GHz dual-core processor, Android 2.3 Gingerbread, LTE connectivity, a 2,500mAh battery, 8-megapixel rear camera, 2-megapixel front facing camera, the S Pen interface and stylus. Both places will be selling it for $299.99 with a 2-year contract on AT&T. Anybody decided which store they’re going to pre-order the phone from?

Sony Ericsson Xperia NX up for pre-order next week

Remember the Sony Xperia S that was launched during CES 2012 last month? The phone was reported to be arriving sometime in March in the UK, but it looks like it’ll be arriving in Japan a month earlier. According to reports online, the phone (known as the Xperia NX in Japan) will go up for pre-order on February 10th and will be arriving on NTT DoCoMo on February 24^th – about a week earlier than the UK release. Since the dates aren’t too far apart, we can only hope that it will be the same for the US version as well.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia NX/S will feature a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, a 4.3″ 1280 x 720 display with Reality Display and Mobile Bravia Engine, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, and a 12-megapixel camera with Exmor R photo sensor. Anybody looking forward to pick up this device?

Motorola DROID RAZR and DROID RAZR MAXX updates coming soon

Even though the DROID RAZR and DROID RAZR MAXX on Verizon are pretty new devices, it looks like Verizon already has got some updates in store for the phone. According to an announcement on its support page, a new update that will bring the phones up to version 6.12.173.XT912.Verizon.en.US (the phones run on the same ROMs after all) will include a bunch of new features that improves the phones’ usability and experience.

Dropbox giving away 5GB to Android beta testers

Great news for all Dropbox users with Android devices – if you’re looking forward to increase the amount of storage space you have, you’re in luck. Dropbox has announced the release of its new Dropbox app for Android and a sweet promotion to go along with it. All you have to do is download the app for your phone/tablet, and use the app’s automatic camera upload feature. Upon the completion of your first automatic upload, you’ll be given an additional 500MB of storage. After that, for every subsequent 500MB worth of photos and videos you upload via the automatic upload feature, you’ll be given another 500MB automatically. You’ll be able to repeat this process until you’ve earned 5GB of additional storage – talk about generous!
