Rumor has it that Microsoft will deliver its first over the air update for Windows Phone 7 early in January, which will bring the features of the platform closer to those of the iPhone and iOS. Among the features of the Windows Phone 7 update rumors, copy and paste are of top priority along with Bing turn-by-turn directions, custom ringer support, and some form of multitasking. The news was revealed by Chris Walsh, who was a key part of the ChevronWP7 jailbreak unlock solution, and according to Walsh, “MS took 3 months to do what Apple did in 3 years.” Walsh says that the update is big enough that Microsoft “could have called it Windows Phone 8,” which is welcomed news for both early adopters as well as for Microsoft. The company’s Windows Phone 7 platform has been well received, but reviews have dinged the platform for lack of multitasking and copy and paste–both features that were supported in the now legacy Windows Mobile environment. Walsh also promises to post some screenshots of what is to be expected soon.

The light will gradually wake you before the alarm sounds to make getting up a little bit easier and a little less jolting. The device also has an FM radio, digital radio, and special alarm tones as well. A built-in power port also makes it convenient to charge a cell phone on your nightstand as well.

With the explosion of storage and bandwidth, web surveillance camera usage has grown at a fast pace. For years, webcams have been able to send snapshots of a subject that entered into a protected zone, and more recently, some could also capture video stored either locally or on a remote server. Often, sending photos and storing videos over FTP was inconvenient to setup and to manage. Dropcam has been built to do just that, and more, with an easy setup and a web administration. We’ve tried it for a while, and I’ll share my findings with you.

While Amazon is still a dominant player in the e-reader market with a 47% market share, Apple is quickly gaining ground having captured 32% of the e-reader market with its iPad consumer tablet. ChangeWave’s latest survey was completed by over 2,800 consumers, and the methodology for comparison is unclear as the iPad can do a lot more than be used as a dedicated e-reader as it is a multi-purpose content consumption tablet. In general, iPad owners were more satisfied with their devices and the survey results show that in the next 90 days, more people were likely to buy an iPad than a Kindle. 42% of respondents say an iPad would be their next likely e-book reader purchase, 33% wanted the Kindle, and only 4% wanted the Barnes & Noble Nook. The survey did not take into account the Nook Color, which is based on the Android platform and utilizes a 7-inch color LCD touchscreen for displaying books and magazines and was launched after the completion of the ChangeWave survey. At one point, Amazon had estimated its market share to be about 60-80% for e-books. Moreover, while iPad owners can access books from Apple’s iBookstore, users can also access Amazon’s Kindle Store as well as Barnes & Noble’s Nook Store, the Borders e-book store, and the Kobo catalog.

It looks like the change from resistive touchscreen to capacitive touchscreens had resulted in Nokia using Corning’s Gorilla Glass, which is advertised as being tougher to break than regular glass as well as being more scratch resistant. Niilo Alfthan tweeted during Nokia’s question and answer session on Twitter about Nokia Design that all phones with glass displays are made from Gorilla Glass. Nokia had transitioned to glass displays starting with the Nokia X6, which is the first Nokia capacitive touchscreen phone. The Nokia 5800 series phone before that employed a resistive touchscreen layer and did not use glass.

AT&T is now offering U-verse subscribers access to content from HBO and Cinemax. U-verse subscribers can now watch shows on HBO Go and Max Go on a variety of different devices. AT&T has allowed subscribers to watch content and manage their DVRs using smartphones and tablets, most notably Android phones and the iPad app. Access to HBO Go and Max Go, however, is limited only to subscribers who subscribe to those premium channels already.

For iPad owners who are jealous of other tablets and phones with special 3D screens that come with or without special glasses, Grilli is hoping to appease the 3D consumption appetite for iOS owners with a special screen overlay that aims to deliver a similar 3D viewing experience sans special glasses. The overlay would be applied on top of the iPad’s glass display, and will transform the iPad’s display into a 3D screen for the price of $30, with iPhone and iPod Touch overlays coming soon. Unfortunately, though, there is still not a lot of specialized 3D content for the Grilli3D overlay, but Grilli is providing instructions so users can create either photos or videos for the 3D screen tech on Adobe Photoshop or Final Cut Pro.

Microsoft has just launched the Noble Map Pack for the Halo: Reach game on Xbox, which promises to deliver three new environments to the gameplay for 800 Microsoft Points. Now, users can add Breakpoint, Tempest, and Anchor 9 to Halo: Reach. The game is described by Microsoft as such:
